There is something deeply soothing about starting the day with bread making. The rhythm of the kneading, and the zen-like state it brings about can zone me out and restore inner calm. The waiting for the rising also demands a patience, for you cannot rush an ingredient like 'time to rise'; and it's within these imposed waiting times, when I feel wholly present, that I am more than a little bit glad that I took the time, made the effort, overcame my tendency for convenience over home-made.
In a way I cannot really describe I feel completely whole.
I know the feeling! Happy baking!

I've not really got the zen of bread-making - yet. I can see how you've mothered it too, and what you mean about imposed waiting time - its a bit like making date-milk; you can only enjoy the dreaminess of it when you've waited till the next day.
I like the bowl - it's like the ones we used in home-ec at school - they really ought to start teaching that again...

masha'Allah beautiful post, love the title. it's very contradictory to the theme of the post. rising is active, patience is not?...or is it, i'm not sure i haven't quite got the knack of that one yet;) thanks for the sentiment and encouragement!

the bowl reminds me of my grandmother.......and how can I not get my bread to rise up that good..

I keep mine in a warm oven and direct sunlight. Do you use sugary milk to start the yeast off? Seems to help me. And YES the bowl reminds me of my nana - think that's why I like it so much!
