As you know, I have spent the last couple weeks with a paintbrush in one hand and a drop clothe in the other, attempting to drag our home out of the realms of student-type accommodation into family of the 21st century type thing.
I don't know why it has taken me this long to give any attention to the house. I think perhaps it is mainly because we rent and it has taken a while for me to think of this place as less of a base and actually our home for the foreseeable future insha'allah. It is, I think, testament to the fact that I feel settled here that I now want to put a (semi) permanent mark on it.
Still, it is hard to get any mojo going for bathroom decor, and my bathroom has to be one of the smallest bathrooms on record. Three paces, max. And it is cold, damp and prone to mould. So I felt that something clinical and minimal would work best here, and once I had decided on the new colour scheme (I say 'new' like we ever had an 'old' colour scheme, but we didn't) it came together pretty quickly.
I chose a dark gun metal grey for the paint and coupled this with simple accents of white with splashes of beech wood for contrast. Simple, yet not altogether unbeautiful.
To add humour I added some vinyl decals to the door - really you would have to know how small this room is to get why I find an exit sign funny.
Yes the light is bad. Again. I have given up waiting for good light. I think you will have to use your imagination to know what it really looks like in real life. But you get the idea.
Maybe the kitchen next? And if I get my act together to sort the sitting room out, that to follow at some point insha'allah.
Don't worry sister, I think my bathroom is even smaller (is that possible?) than yours. With no windows.
Humm, I wonder how long those peebles gonna stay there?
Salaam.

oh they've stayed put no worries - the advantage of having a really cold bathroom is that people don't stay to play lol

We had a tiny bathroom like this a few years ago...prone to mould and all.
I hope the fresh paint brightens it a bit.

Ta chuck! if I didn't have a sense of humour I'd have to be locked up...

You've done a crackin' job in there babe. Very very good stuff.
Mould eh?...there's loads of things out there to combat that. Sprays and such.
I've a 'feeling' it may need more though...
Worst case...as it's small...you may need an 'air brick' in the wall. Amazing how a bit of 'air circulation' can sort that sort of thing out.
Not too difficult to do. A bit messy but worth it.
Just measure up to the appropriate brick. Knock it out and replace with an 'air brick' (with holes in it). Any builder could do this in half a day. I could do this in half a day so don't get ripped off.
£80 or so would be well enough and - with the ensuing ventilation - your mould would vanish!!!
Trust me I'm from Oldham...

the HA came and put an extractor fan in for us but it doesn't do any good. It creeps back eventually and all I can do is keep it at bay with mould remover. at least now the mould matches ;-)
