After a long while of relegating this to the craft equivalent of a back-burner I have dug the drop spindles out again and am trying to master the art of spinning.
Aided by excellent tutorial videos like this, I've been giving it my best shot. (And there are a lot of great tutorials on YouTube if you want to search 'drop spindle')
I know, however, that I've got a long way to go.
The good news is - help is at hand! In a few weeks the local spinning and weaving guild is meeting up and they've asked me to go along to meet up - and hopefully be given some help!
I can't wait for the day that I 'get' this, and that I can spin and knit my own yarn. Not even when my man comes in and gives me 'look at the iddy biddy crazy English girl' look and announces we have machines for things like this now, and how about he make me an up-to-date spinning thing with his drill do I get disheartened. One day when I can spin yarn from carpet fluff and knit him a sweater he'll adore me.
Well done you for giving it another go! Can't wait to see your results! I'd love to be able to spin my own yarn!

I just bought a drop spindle and some wool a few weeks ago after dreaming about having one for years. Now I have no idea what to do with it! I'll have to check out the spinners and weavers guild.
The other week I saw a photo of someone spinning angora right off of a very patient rabbit. Anyone else see that? I can't say I didn't eye up my cat a bit differently for the rest of the day. :-)

those videos will be a good start! and yes, try to find some local spinner who will be glad to help as they natter. I have plans for recycling carpet fluff and teabags - it'll be all the rage soon - watch this space. Eco-fabric-yarn.

Look at you! What's on that spindle looks pretty good from here! : ) Remember... we've got a trade in our future, right? I'm allergic to carpet fluff, though, so can I have something less eco-friendly? Thanks... : )

I know! I know! Whenever I pick up the spindle I'm like 'I made a deal with Diane' lol although, you know, it's the thought that counts right?
Allergic to housefluff? Meh. I'm allergic to housework and this seemed like a workable solution....

Wow that looks tricky. Definitely can't wait to see your finished yarn.
